Appropriate Attire
This year, my county has really enforced everyone being in appropriate attire. The problem is, everyone has different views on what is appropriate? This struggle really impacts the women. At the elementary level, there is a lot of binding and moving around. Some of my colleagues had been wearing colored skinny jeans, which didn't look like skinny's. When you look Pintrests for ideas, the common skinny ankle is what you see. Is this not appropriate? Many teachers felt this was too harsh. Our AP also suggested no one wear flip flops. What's the appropriate attire for elementary school teachers?

As long as the jeans are not too tight or thin in revealing what's under the clothing the colored skinny jeans should be fine. I can understand not wearing the flip flops as they are not professional, but sandals that look a little more professional and classy should be allowed...they are allowed in all 3 schools I have worked in with one being an elementary school.

Flip flops are never appropriate in the workplace. However, ankle pants are fine as long as they are not too tight. What is appropriate is always a struggle and it is interpreted differently by everyone. Administration should provide specific examples of what is deemed in appropriate to keep confusion down. Of course you want teachers to be comfortable. However, no one should ever confuse who is the teacher and who is the student.

Everyone does have different perspectives on what they think is appropriate. I feel if the clothing does not reveal too much skin, it is appropriate. In my school, women skirts are to be 2in longer than their finger tips when hands are placed to the side, but who is actually measuring? I believe as long as the professionals' attire distinguishes them from the students, they are fine.

Teachers have to distinguish themselves as professionals. If this is accomplished, their attire should be appropriate.

Simple, yet very true! As long as teachers act and appear professional then all is good.

Does the county have an officail dress code? If so I would suggest following this dress code precisley to avoid controversy. Dress slacks are usually a little more loose, skinny jeans are not appropriate if they are too tight.

There should be clear expectations for a teacher dress code. If jeans are not acceptable, there should be another option. The elementary level requires a lot of moving around and potentially messy situations. There should be practical and professional options to wear.

I think as long as they are dressed comfortably and covering than it should be appropriate. I do not think skinny jeans should be an issue for teachers. Flip flops might be, I have always found closed toe shoes to be more appropriate for any work situation and a safety concern.
