Parent: "I've come away from work early to deal with this problem. You wouldn't know because this happens during playtime and there is never a teacher on duty. It is always happening, the school does nothing about it and the child is too scared to come to school." Continue this scenario to resolve the issue.                 Submit a Possible Solution Please read response(s) below (if any) before posting your solution.                 Solution 1 Posted April 18, 2013 7:26 pm ehyQyD Reps: 97 I would let the parent know that there is indeed a teacher on the playground and it is unfortunate that the student didn't come and see me to handle it. I would also let the parent know that I will handle it in a way that will not single out the student to the bully. Also, if the problem persists I will find a way to separate the students during that time. I would have expressed to the parent that there is a zero tolernce policy and that this situation will be handled. Bullying is a scary situation for parents and the student being bullied so address the parents concern with seriousness.   Posted on: October 16, 2014 6:59 pm Ashley Noe Reps: 99 I'd also inform the parents that there is indeed supervision. However, tell the parent to tell his or her child to bring it to your attention when it happens. Tell the parent that the bully will not know that his or her child tattled. Inform them that there is in fact a teacher on duty during play time and that no one has stated anything like this happening. Tell them you will let the other teacher's know about the student being bullied, but also tell the student he needs to tell a teacher about the bully and ask the student to give you more information about what is happening. I would encourage the parent to speak with their child about coming to the teacher when there is a problem. Let them know that they can do this privately to avoid any embarrassment. Students must be encouraged to advocate for themselves and to feel safe doing so. I would also walk around and interact w/ the students more so that see I am not just standing in one location. I would also pay close attention to the student who has been bullied and have a talk w/ him/her and let them know that I will be monitoring the situation more closely. I would always encourage the student to feel free to come and speak w/ me and let the student know this type of behavior is not tolerated. I will make sure the next time they are on the playground I watch their child to see who is bulling them and make sure I put a stop to it.
