Slurs
Lately, whenever the Hispanic students in my class are participating in classroom discussions I have been hearing a certain group of kids talk about the wall that the president wants to build. I have told them several times to stop and am thinking about calling a meeting with their parents as that behavior is not tolerated.
Is this the best route or does anyone have a better solution? |

I would maybe talk to them privately and have a discussion with them as to why its not okay rather than just telling them to stop |

IF I were in this situation I would exactly do this. This is a great idea I think a one on one is appropriate for this situation. |

I think this is a very smart way to approach it. |

I would definitely talk to the students about why that is inappropriate and ask them how they would feel if someone was talking about them if they were in a similar situation. Conference with the parents with admin if it continues. |

Explain to the students why this behavior is unacceptable. "Because my teacher told me not to" can be a small reason why this behavior stops, but not always. I think having a parent teacher conference is a smart idea but only after said discussion is had with the students. |

As their teacher I would review my collaborative group rules and expectations then depending on the grade level of the class I would consider forming a whole group discussion about this topic. It is something that is culturally relevant to your students background and something that is clearly important and concerning to them. It would be worth having an informative conversation about instead of demanding they stop talking about it. It is something that could potential effect them or someone they know. These types of discussions are best because they can be guided and monitored by the teacher and allow students to develop an understanding of other points of views and gain knowledge about current issues arising within their society. |

I would a one-on-one discussion with each student first, asking them to not talk about this topic anymore, and if they persist to talk about it in class, then a parent conference is necessary. |

I would have a talk with both the student individually and then a comment to the class. However when speaking to the class do not point out individual students and use it as an open ended suggestion to not use language like that. |

I do believe it is important to have a parent teacher conference and discuss this situation because it is something parents should be aware of but also something that should be take care of. The teacher should also have the support opf parents when it comes to discussing this manner. |

I would first call a meeting with each student privately and have an administrator in attendance. If the behavior does not change then I would hold a parent-teacher conference. |

I agree with your solution and think it is a great way to solve the issue. May need to alert administration of the issue. |
