Making Lessons Relatable
My class is currently working on ratios. My CT was using examples like “two red marbles for every pink marble”. The students were not very engaged in this lesson. I changed the ratios to comparing items like iPhones and Androids and McDonald’s and Chick-fil-a’s. The students got very excited for the lesson when it involved these more relatable subjects.

I have also noticed that if you use things the students are interested or real world examples that would impact their lives they are much more engaged. Recently we were working on positive and negative numbers, one example I used was a quarterback being sacked would be negative yards because the quarterbacks end position was further away from the end zone than their starting position. The boys in the class went wild because I knew something about sports!
