Online Work Issues
A teacher is constantly receiving completed work for the wrong class from an online student and is having a very hard time communicating with this student. The student doesn't participate in virtual learning conversations and doesn't respond to the teacher's emails, but the student is always present for the virtual class. The teacher isn't sure if the student is having a hard time keeping organized or if they are just not completing the work for this class. What is the next step the teacher should take since communication with the student isn't working? |

The teacher should reach out to the student/ parents in another form of communication such as a phone call home, since there are issues with reaching the student through online means, it's time to take another course of action. Also, since the student is always present in class, try directly involving the student in activities/ conversation, such as calling their name before you pose a question. |

I think the teacher should try and have a parent conference. This way the teacher and parent can communicate to the student how important it is to do their homework. |

The following step that the teacher should take is reaching out to the students' parents/guardians to establish communication with them since the many attempts to establish communication with the student has been unsuccessful. |

The teacher should contact the parents of the student to make sure they understand what is going on. The teacher could schedule a meeting with the student to make sure they understand how to submit assignments\ use Canvas correctly. The teacher could do this by asking the student to stay online after class, as well. The teacher should make sure the student is fully aware of what is going on and how to correct it. |

A simple e-mail explaining to the student that they are not in trouble and the teacher just wants to figure out what is going on is a good place to start. This student is probably drastically confused and just needs a little guidance. |

An email explaining what is happening could clear things up. I would start with an email then send a tutorial video of how to submit an assignment for my class online. |

I would address with the student before instruction that they are to stay at the end of the lesson for discussion. If this does not work I would definitely reach out to the parent/guardian to see what you can do to help aid the student. |

The next step should be an attempt at reaching out via another method such as a phone call to the student and/or the parent/guardian, as I think contact needs to be made with one or the other if not both. If contact is made, then the teacher should schedule either a parent-teacher conference or conference with the student, depending on who the teacher is able to reach. Another great way to achieve this would be addressing the student before, during, or after one of the virtual classes for which the student is present. During this conference, the teacher should first see what is going on with the student and then strategize how to help the student from there. |

I would try to get in contact with the parents and set up a meeting. If it turns out to be organizational issues then there are ways to accommodate the students to help with their needs. Online school can be difficult and teachers must be able to assist when needed. Of course if the student is just not doing their work the the parents should be contacted. |
