How can you make it so that the parent wants to have their kid succeed as much as the student wants to?
Is there strategies to make sure that the parent knows that the student might need help in areas so they should try and support them whenever they can? Sometimes I can see parents not really caring about the students education especially in later levels but maybe not early levels.

I think being open about what the student may be struggling with is the first step. You could have a personal meeting, either over the phone or face-to-face, and then explain what the student needs help with. You could suggest ways for the parent to help, such as making a math game if the student is struggling in math.

I think you reaching out to the parent to say "hey I notice your child is really trying to improve in a certain subject but they are also struggling a lot, do you think this is something we can work together on to help them improve?"

If you reaching out directly to the parent doesn't help then I would suggest encouraging the student to talk to their parent about where they are struggling.
