Test Bank Questions
In a recent Professional Learning meeting a teacher is told that she must use questions from professional test banks like USA Test Prep in order to create assessments for her class. However, the teacher feels that she understands the needs of her class and wants to write about half of the questions for her test on her own. Should she be able to do this? |

I feel that each teacher should be able to create his/her own test. If the schools wants her to use USA Test Prep questions in order to create assessments, I feel that maybe she should use these to guide her questions. Maybe rewrite the question or change the format. She could also use half the questions for her assessment and create her other half. Each teacher should know the individual and how she should assess her own classes. |

This teacher should no doubt be able to implement their own questions ,if they are valid and have are written to help student development. I have used USA Test Prep question many times because you can pick questions depending on the depth of knowledge a student must have to answer them correctly. I also like to put questions on my test that students would only know if they were paying attention in class. However, I feel like those questions also need to be standard based. |

I really like this solution. Teachers should be able to add questions that are specific to the lesson that were taught in class. |

I feel she should be able to use her own questions as well provided they are not just simple recall questions. I use USA test prep from time to time because they have some really good questions to use. |

Because the teacher understands her students, she should be allowed to create half, if not all of the questions on an assessment. If it is required that she use USA Test Prep, then she should be able to modify or add to what is required. The teacher is planning for what her students can do, and show their learning. |

The teacher should follow the directives of the county. If there is a difference in state assessment and classroom assessment scores it could be because of the differences in the assessments. Test banks ensure that the language of the standards are in the classroom assessments. They also allow teachers to filter their choices by DOK level to ensure that they are rigorous. |

No she should not be able to do that. Allowing her to do this would not allow for fair grading when it pertains to the testing standards and materials that the students peers may face taking tests with other teachers. Standardizing the materials and questions that students face across the board takes away to possibility of students claiming that the testing was discriminatory or unfair. |
