Won't Do Anything!
I am dealing with a situation in my class where one of my students just sits at his desk all day and does absolutely nothing. It does not matter what I say or do. He just sits there and will not even pick up his pencil. What makes this situation worse is that I know he can do it and I know he is capable of great things! When I tested him at the beginning of the year he scored above average. What are some things I can do to help this situation? I have motivated and been as positive about this as I can. I have even made the parents aware and they keep saying her is like that at home as well. |

Maybe speak with her about topics that interest her and have just a real conversation. See if she will talk with you about that. Then you can try to incorporate things of interest into her learning. I know it will be more work, but if it gets her doing something that's all you want. |

It shows the student is most likely bored. Get to know more about your student and ask them what they enjoy doing or a topic that interest them and elaborate on those topics to change things up a little. |

Perhaps turn the table on her and ask what she would like to do today instead of telling her what to do. Whatever she answers, try to adapt the lesson to what she wants to do. This opens the door to see what activities she likes and what she will work for. This can also be easily transitioned into a positive incentive to get work done before doing an activity the student enjoys. |

You should implement a reward system for the student to motivate him. If the student has an incentive for the work they have to complete, then maybe they will actually do it. For example, the students can receive a sticker when a worksheet is completed. Find out what the student likes, and try to motivate him. |

I understand this situation can be tough. I would suggest creating a lesson plan that especially interests her. Call on her to answer questions or even give you an idea of games and activities or animals that she likes. Knowing this kind of background knowledge of her interests can deem for more participation from her in your classroom. |

I think talking with the student is a good idea. Find out what they are feeling and thinking and why they refuse to do work. I also think you should set up a meeting with the student's parents or guardian and possibly the guidance counselor. There may be things going outside of school that are causing the student to refuse to do work. |

Mabey involve him in the lesson a lot and say positive praise. |
