Tasks and Pre-Tests
In Mrs. James class, she gives Tasks and pre-tests to her students before every unit. At the end of completing the task and pre-test, she notices that the students performed differently on the assignments that covered the same skills. She wants to use the data to form her groups. Should she use the data from both assessments or just one. How will she know which to choose from?

I suggest that Mrs. James analyze both assessments. Take a deeper look to determine why the scores were different. Determine if the questions addressed the skills properly. After taking an in depth look at both assessments, then she can form her groups. Take a look at the overall scores of each assessment, then find the mean on each assessment. After determining the mean, median, and mode of each assessment, determine which students are in the lowest 10% on each assessment. Those students would receive remediation.

Mrs. James should form her initial groups based on the pre-test. For the post-test she either needs to evaluate herself to see if she can teach it a different way or determine from the data if the students made any gains and if so create remediation gains based on that.

She should use all the possible data she has to pull from when forming the groups.
