How to Collect Simple But Important Information about Students
The "I am" survey is a very easy and effective way to collect useful information about students at any level. The answers to the questions below can help a teacher plan lessons around students' interests, use this information to motivate struggling learners, and promote a sense of belonging in children. A teacher can add his/her own questions to this survey. It is also recommended that the teacher fill out one of these surveys and share with with the students.

I like this survey, it would probably ease my supervisors concerns about the potential privacy invasions of surveys. |

I really like this survey. I think it would be a good idea to do during the first week of school. It has everything you need to get to know more about the child. Depending on the age group, you could sit in a circle and have each child read their responses. To show the children how you can be the same and different, you could play a game. You could group the children and have "all of you that like ___, stand in the front of the room, etc." This will also show children who else has similar interests or maybe they might see that someone likes to do something that they've never tried. This could spark many friendships throughout the classroom. Then, you (the teacher) could keep these and at the end of the year, have them do the survey again to see how their answers changed over the school year. |

This is a great survey to incorporate into the classroom. This would be very helpful at the beginning of the year and would give the teacher a clear idea of who the students are and what they may be like in the classroom. This is also a great way for the students to learn about each other and find similar interests. This would be a great way for students to bond and learn from each other and encourage friendships. It is so important for students to have a friend in their class so this is a great way to start that process. |

Students could use this to get to know each other as well. They could go around the room and find a student that has the same thing on their survey in each of the categories. |

i remember filling out something similar to this when i was in school we also did a class room scavenger hunt where we had to find someone who spoke another language , someone who had a younger sibling , someone who played a sport , someone who was from another country , someone who didn't like math etc . by adding the scavenger hunt to your survey you would be able to have the students engage with one another braking them out of their shells but still you would be able to get a kind of sneak peak into your students so you can better access them. |
