Resources
Ms. Bradley teaches in an urban, inner-city school, where there is a lack of resources. She is a 7th grade Science teacher and her students are struggling with the content. She has given them 11 vocabulary words for the unit and they are still struggling with knowing what they are and how to apply the concepts.
Last year she had Escience, which played a huge role in helping the students with their science vocabulary. The school decided not to buy it this year, so she is trying to find other resources to help, but is coming up short with resources. What resources should she use to help her vocabulary strategies and to better equip them for their vocabulary assessments?

There are many apps available to help study for exams, such as Quizlet which was mentioned previously. However, if there is a lack of resources the school may not have enough computers for students to really utilize this to its potential. Additionally, many students do not have access to technology resources at home. To address the lack of resources, I would use the index card method previously mentioned, find or create some type of song or rhyme for the vocabulary and content(Flocabulary.com and HaveFunTeaching.com are great resources for this), or create a puzzle or memory game where students have to match the definition with the vocabulary word. All of these methods can be used with little expense and can be engaging for students to do independently or in small groups.

Similar to the "old fashioned way" of using index cards, the teacher can use Quizlet as a way to give students an opportunity to study vocabulary before assessments. This website allows students to create electronic flash cards for any material they would like to study. Once the cards are created, students can use them like regular flash cards or they can put it in a game mode to study the words as well. This might motivate the students to learn them because of the game features and it gives them an opportunity to use an electronic device.

Ms. Bradley should try to get with the reading and language arts teachers to see what strategies they use in their classrooms that would be helpful in science. Ms. Bradley could also write a grant for her school to get the program back.

Soror Ashley!!!!! (Hey Girl)

Maybe she can resort to the old fashioned ways of learning vocabulary by using index cards. Students could write the term on the front and the part of speech and definition on the back. Each day the teacher could assign various activities (either during the warm-up or for homework)that requires students to use the vocabulary words.
