Uncooperative
Austin is a senior that has asperger syndrome. He has continuously created problems with his iPad and says negative things about his classwork. What ideas and thoughts do you have for Austin that will spark him interest and stop him form creating problems with him iPad? |

Austin could be given a schedule ahead of time so that he knows what to expect from classwork. This could be done weekly with an understanding that topics brought up in class may vary slightly, but with a general guide for the week to make him feel comfortable. Knowing what to expect may ease his upsets and allow him to explore topics that interest him that are related to the topic being discussed in class, reducing negative comments and made-up problems. |

Students with Asperger Syndrome often want things a certain way and will easily get frustrated if things don't follow go how they expect. He may be saying negative things about his class work because he doesn't feel like it is good enough he also may not understand what he is suppose to do. Remember those with Asperger's have trouble communicating. Creating problems with the ipad may be a way to vent his negative feelings as well and a way out of doing work. So I would encourage the student on his class work and reassure him that the work he is doing is good and also ask questions to see if he really knows what to do or understands the material. |

I would want Austin to advocate for himself. He may be saying negative things about his classwork because he is struggling with the material. I would want to establish better communication with him, ask him if he is having trouble completing work, and warn him about Ipad use, and that he may use the privilege to use it if he cannot use it appropriately. |

I feel that there can be a number of reasons that Austin could be acting out. You possibly could be a little too unscheduled for him or he could be frustrated and not know how to communicate that appropriately with you. I would take sometime to get to know Austin, learning what behaviors go along with certain situations. Once you know your student and the different things he does in different situations, you'll be able to identify the problems and assist him better. |

I think that a solution could be for him to not have the ipad while classwork needs to be done. |
