Managing a class in an open area
The classroom I work in is located in an open pod area. This means that I can hear all the classes throughout the day, which can become distracting for my class if one or more classes become rowdy and crazy. The only thing separating the classes are moveable partition walls.

I think that in a situation like this, it is important to communicate with both your class and the other teachers around you. Since it is probably the same situation for the other classes, you should communicate with the other teachers that you all need to work together to keep the noise level down for all classes in order to not distract everybody. It is also important to explain to your class that just because other classes are being louder does not mean that they can raise their noise level as well.

Communication is key when dealing with outside noises. It's important to communicate with the teachers around you to reduce the noise levels and come up with the best solution possible. If the class you're finding is becoming easily distracted, try to keep them as engaged in the lesson as possible with some partner work and class discussions.

I think that in this scenario it would be important for you to speak with the teachers around you and ask for some consideration as you are right on the other side of their class. I would also consider moving the class outside on some occasions as I think students would also enjoy this.

Sometimes speaking to another class about there volume is very effective in correcting the behavior. I've witnessed this countless times with neighboring teachers talking to classes with substitutes for the day. If you coordinate and gain permission from the teachers, students will be shocked when a different teacher tells them they are making too much noise, and students hearing their teacher address other students may cause them to behavior better too.

Try to get as close are together as possible so that the students can hear you. Emphasize to them the importance of always paying attention, especially in that kind of environment. Use hand signals and/or gestures to communicate with students when things get crazy/rowdy/loud.

This can be difficult especially if they class next to you is a science class for example and are having fun with experiments. I would say to have a discussion with the neighboring teachers and maybe getting a white noise machine in the class could help.

Although this is not an ideal situation, it can be manageable if all the teachers work together. There will be moments of elevated conversations, and this should be expected If the teachers surrounding you have the same or similar classroom rules this should be able to be handled.
