Outdated ESOL Material
Hi there!
I work in a public high school with students of all backgrounds, and the ESOL program is quite large. However, I have noticed that the language department is always receiving new materials and classroom tools for only a two year program, while my program is 4 years and we have been reading the same textbooks for many years. What can I suggest to the principal or head of ESOL to describe that unfair material distribution and how the students need more relevant material. |

I suggest going to the Principal. If she does not help I would go straight to the Superintendent with all the facts of how many students make up the program, how much it's growing, and how current events are affecting a child's learning. Books for ESOL should be updated frequently because laws continue to change which affect immigrants and their children. Our world and the people in it, especially in America, evolve exponentially which affects how and what we educate our children with. The material we teach needs to be in line with how we are living and the culture we are surrounded by. |
