When answering questions regarding special needs of students it is important to use politically correct terminology. As a former special education teacher, the Individualized Education Plan or 504 plan only provides the eligibility of the student and suggested student supports. In order to gain a more accurate perspective of what instructional accommodations best fit the student, the teacher should review the case file, taking a specific look at the psychological evaluation. This will provide greater insight into cognitive and behavior functionality/ability. Additionally, the teacher must get to know the student and establish rapport in order to interact with students and gain their feedback regarding any accommodations that are being made. |
