Case: Sick Day or Personal Day?
In your district you get three personal days per year, and you have already earned all three. You would like to go out of town for a long weekend with some friends and would need to take Friday off to do so. Is it ethical to call in "sick" for this day even though you are not actually sick?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I don't think this is unethical. It is left up to the discretion of the educator to determine this. I do believe that teaching is a quite rewarding job. However, it can be also quite stressful and draining. Therefore, taking a "sick" day to get your mind together after a long, stressful week is very beneficial to both the teacher and students.

Comments: This isn't a day to get your mind right though, this is like a student skipping school except you are supposed to be setting a good example and not instilling principles like this in your classroom. If a student found out about this then what would stop them from doing the same thing?

Comments: This is very unethical for a teacher to lie about where they are or how sick they are. It's her job to be honest and have a set of ethical standards.

Comments: I do not agree that this day should be taken off as a "sick" day. It the teacher has a personal day left they should definitely just use on of those personal days. Lying about time off can create quite a mess if you're not careful which could end up damaging your professional reputation.
