  Case: Listening to the Intern
There is a student that is genuinely good when there in an intern in the room. They constantly run to the intern and when ever the intern asks the student to do something they do it immediately. Whenever I ask the student I have to ask several times. The student also acts out whenever it is just myself and constantly interrupts me during lessons. Is there anything I can do to possibly get the student to listen to myself? The intern is only with me two days out of the week and will occasionally come in to fulfill some volunteer hours.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would have the intern ask the student to be good while they are gone and listen to the teacher. When the intern is not present just make sure to help that student feel like they are important to the class and that you have an interest in their success and maybe the student will listen to you and respect you just as much as the intern.

Comments: Very helpful advice. I also think making the student feel important while the intern is not around will help the student.

Comments: I did not feel that that asking the student to be good while the intern is out of the classroom is solving the issue. The student is looking for attention and there are some behavioral issues that need to be addressed. More information in this solution is needed.

Comments: The intern is not the main teacher, the exception being the two days they are there. That being said, the intern shouldn't have to tell the students to listen to the teacher because you have been there longer as the main teacher. You should also always try to make sure that the students are aware you feel they are important and that you want them to succeed in school.

Comments: I would never do this, the students will not listen and the intern would never know if the student listened when he or she wasn't there.

Comments: I do not think this is a good solution. The intern should not have to ask this of the students. The teacher needs to be responsible for obtaining the respect of his or her students. I would not try this solution.

Comments: The intern is only going to have so much "power" over the student, and this sounds like it demeans them like a child. I've found that a lot of students like interns that come in mainly because they are closer in age. To a high school student, there is maybe three to seven years difference in age and this is something they can relate to them on. The intern is more personable, so they can interact on a similar level than the teacher.
