  Case: Administrator Playing Favorites
An assistant principal has a group of students that she plays favorites with. These students are constantly in her office when they should be in class and when any of them are written up they receive barely a slap on the wrist if anything. This same principal sends out emails to the school telling teachers to not send students to her office without her permission, but when students wander in after getting permission to go to the bathroom she lets them stay. How do you handle this?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would tell the principal that your worried about the students missing instruction and that they might be falling behind. When your students continue to wander into the office just tell them that you prefer them to be in the classroom. This is a tough position because this is your boss disrupting instruction.

Comments: I agree the best thing to do in this scenario is to try to talk to the students. Also showing concern for the students may be a good way since as stated you are dealing with your boss.

Comments: I would try to resolve the situation with my students first. If that did not work then I would speak to the assistant principal. If the situation is not resolved after that then I would speak to the principal after all other options have been exhausted.

Comments: This solution may not be effective in this situation and the students will probably continue to go to the assistant principle's office because it is someone with greater authority than you. Something that could be done would be to talk to the principle or someone higher up in the system to get the problem resolved.

Comments: This is not what I would do. I disagree with this solution because I don't believe that all steps were taken to correct the behavior and I don't like the implication that nothing can be done.

Comments: I think that the teacher should be completely honest and straight forward with both the students and the Admin.
