Case: Unsupportive Parent
At the beginning of the year, I placed one of my students on the wrong bus. It was an honest mistake, she was brought back to the school and mom was called to come get her. When mom got to the school she was irate. She yelled and screamed at me for putting her child on the wrong bus. Ever since then she has tried to inconvenience me in any way possible. She has also made it a point to talk about me and knit pick everything I do to other parents in the classroom. How do I address this situation? Should I get administration involved, or should I handle it myself?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would address the issue with the parent that it was your mistake. Ask the parent what it is that you can do to be forgiven. If this is still an issue after you have talked to the parent then definitely get an administrator involved. |

Comments: I don't have time for disrespectful and rude people. Everyone makes mistakes, it is only human. For the parent to treat anyone like this, they should be ashamed. I would apologize and say I was sorry for the incovinence but remind them that it was a mistake and that I did not do it on purpose. If the immaturity continued, I would immediately get the administration involved without hesitation. |

Comments: If I already asked the parent for forgiveness I would avoid doing it to many more times because they may take it as a sign of weakness and run with it. Recognizing you did something wrong is okay but you want to maintain strength at the same time. |

Comments: I would not do this. Already there is tension between the parent and the teacher it would not be wise to address the issue directly with the parent and create more bad tension between the 2 parties. Admin should be brought in. |
