Case: TMI
My friend that teaches at the high school level has a student that is constantly informing her of things of a personal nature such as what she did with a boyfriend of sneaking out at night. The teacher has discouraged the behavior but is wondering if she needs to inform administration.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would definitely talk to a school administrator or even the counselor about the student's behavior towards you. It could be that she sees you more as one of her friends than her teacher. I would try and be a little stricter around her so she understands this and have her talk to the counselor about her decisions at home. |

Comments: I think this is relevant to an extent, but I think the case was mores regarding how to handle the information she was receiving from their conversations. |

Comments: I think that you should include the student before including the administrator. You need to make sure she understands that you are her teacher, but also that you are concerned with her actions and that she may want to go and talk to the school counselor instead of you. |

Comments: I don't think modeling behavior would work at this age. I think it'd be best to redirect the student elsewhere. |

Comments: Even though I really liked your idea, I think the teacher should first make boundaries clear to the student. If they go straight to a counselor, the student may feel "ganged up on". |

Comments: I agree it is a good position to involve admin and counselors. However, this situation should not cause a teacher to close themselves off to the students with turning away behaviors. The teacher needs to still make themselves available for outside classroom occurrences as we are influential to them and can guide them. At the same time, in a formal meeting with admin it can be reinforced that the teacher is there as a mentor, but not as a friend. |

Comments: It's good that the student feels comfortable enough to talk to their teacher about it. Kids need adults to speak into their lives so communication should not just be totally cut off. |

Comments: I agree with the fact about addressing the issue to the school administration but I don't think the teacher should be stricter towards the student instead just handle it directly. |
