Case: Communicating With Uninvolved Parents
How do you deal with parents who don't respond to email, phone calls, letters, notes, conferences about their studnets?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Try every option possible! Send home notes, email, phone call or even text. If none of these are working ask the student why the parents are reluctant to respond or if they are even getting your messages. Some where you might have mixed up contacts with someone else. |

Comments: I do not think I would ask the student why the parents are not getting back to you. There might be many reasons why the parents are not involved and I feel that would put the child in the middle. |

Comments: If I was in this situation, I would not use this solution. The solution only considered the teachers side of the problem stated in the case and not the parents. Such as,the parents being overwhelmed by life demands and not trying to avoid the teachers phone calls. |

Comments: Asking the child why the parent is not responding may make them feel as if their parents do not care. I would not suggest this solution. |

Comments: I would not use this solution, because the child may not know the answer to or feel comfortable answering that question. Don't ask the child questions regarding a mix-up in contacts. |
