  Case: Homework
I am experiencing great difficulty with students turning in their homework on time. Students are given an entire week to complete the weekly homework assignments. However, they refuse to complete the assignment and seem to not be bothered by the fact that they are getting a zero in the grade book. What solutions would you suggest to increase homework participation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would first contact the student's parents and tell them what is going on with their child. I would come up with a solution with the parent in order to get their child to start completing the homework on time.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: I think that there is a way to try and help the student before calling the parent. Calling the parent should be the second or third thing to do. Remember you do not want to cause problems for the students at home.

Comments: Although I do think that the parents should be notified, I think the teacher should try alternative solutions first. (Perhaps a 3 strike method? 3 missed homework assignments and their parents are called)

Comments: I am not sure if this solution is helpful because it seems like the teacher is having this issue with quite a few of the students.
