Case: No make up exam policy
A student misses a mid-term exam worth 40% of her grade. She tells you she was in the hospital. You have a "NO MAKE UP EXAM" policy and the student appears to be OK. What course of action do you take next?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Every rule needs to bend for different reasons. If a student was in the hospital and had a "Doctors Note" not a note from mom or dad, defiantly allow that student to make up that work! It is considered an excused absence. Set up a time and a date that she can make it up. Be sure to include a day for her to study before the test because if she was in the hospital im sure she did not have a chance to study yet.

Comments: Casuistry, absolutely. No make up exam policies are for students that did not manage their time wisely, not for genuine medical reasons. If she was really in the hospital, there will be documentation that she can get.

Comments: I agree, a genuine hospitalization with a doctors note to verify the incident should make the student eligible to make up the exam. Unexpected accidents are a real occurrence for every individual, including students. A student should not be penalized for a hospitalization when proper documentation proving the validity of the situation is provided.

Comments: I totally agree with this solution. By not allowing the student a make-up opportunity even when presented with a medical note, this could have severe consequences in the long run for the teacher themself.
