Case: I couldn't help it!
I'm a teacher that loves to get personable with her students. I show them that I care about them outside of my classroom. One night, I was supporting my students at a basketball game and one of my students needed a ride home from the game. She attempted to call her grandparents, parents, but no one answered. It was very dark outside. I decided to give her a ride. Is this against the code of ethics?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I agree with everyone else that leaving the child alone would have been the wrong choice. If this was a school game was there not an administrator there? I would double check your counties code of ethics before doing this in the future though because I know in my county this is not allowed at all and most insurance companies won't actually cover transporting students. |

Comments: While I think this gets the basic point that the student should have received a ride home, I think that even if the code of conduct was consulted and it said this was not allowed, one should still not leave a student at school alone because they cannot get a ride home - it simply isn't safe. |

Comments: I don't agree with this response. The teacher was supporting a students outside of school at a basketball game, so there was a high chance that an administrator wasn't there. The teacher made the right decision under the circumstances. |

Comments: I think it's important to know the code of ethics but when it comes down to it I think that you should give the child a ride home so you know that they are safe. |
