  Case: Tough Interview Question- Retakes
I went on a job interview quite some time ago; however, there is one question that continues to stump me and I'm not quite sure I could have answered it. The principal asked me what my views were on allowing students to retake tests. Would I take the average? What happens if students fail the first one on purpose, only to get a high A on every retake? I wasn't sure how to answer this because the county where I came from only allowed one retake per 9 weeks. How would you answer a question like this? In my experience, retake rules were always decided at the county level.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
In the interview, I might would mention that in your experiences the county level or school level decided the procedures for retakes. I would let them know I would follow whatever rule was in place for retakes. However, you then might would suggest your opinion on retakes. You know some students don't perform well on tests and also, some students might have had a rough night at home the night before. You would allow retakes until a student took advantage of the opportunity. Those are my opinions, but you could express yours in the interview.

Comments: This is an excellent solution, and I agree that you should inform the interviewee that you do not have any past experience with making your own retake rules, and that you are happy to follow the ones in place at your new school.

Comments: I definitely think it is important to inform the administrator that you are willing to comply with whatever ruling they have in place, but also have your own opinion prepared.
