Case: ESOL in Science
What are your suggestions for helping ESOL students understand the content and vocabulary in science?

I had ESOL students when I taught third grade science. I found that using picture vocabulary cards was extremely helpful. I would also modify tests/quizzes to have two choices instead of four in a multiple choice format. |

| Comments: Visual aids are always a good help in learning, regardless of if the student is an ESOL student or not. Visual aids help engrain things in their minds. |

| Comments: I think the best part of this advice is the use of pictures as an aide for students. I'm not sure that narrowing the answer choices down to 2 would be a necessarily valid choice in terms of reliability among student test results, but wording the tests specifically at their language proficiency level and adding pictures whenever possible and scaffolding vocabulary terms should help. |

| Comments: I like the solution presented as the picture visuals would assist the students to learning the material. Also having modifications to the tests would assist the student with taking and completing the test. The solution is being respectful to the student and can help solve the issue. |
