  Case: Higher Level Learners
Mrs. Smith has a class of gifted/advanced students as well as a class of advanced/regular ed students. Mrs. Smith has a hard time "challenging" the higher level learners in the advanced and gifted classes. She establishes high expectations and requires more effort from students in those classes, however the gifted students do not refer to her class as a challenging one. What are some suggestions for Mrs. Smith?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Mrs. Smith needs to incorporate a few simple differentiated instruction strategies to challenge her high-level learners. Without having to change the content significantly, Mrs. Smith can create tired collaborative learning activities and group her student's based on their instructional levels. Another simple way to challenge advanced learners is through student debates. Teach the students proper debate etiquette and then let them gather evidence about a particular topic. Propose an open-ended question and have them defend their stance on the question with other students.

The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: This solution is a great idea to challenge her high-level learners. First, I would highly recommend open-ended questions as well because students will be forced to not only provide an answer, but defend it as well. Secondly, I have used debates in my classroom on several occasions. It especially allows higher-level learners the opportunity to express their opinion and promotes critical thinking as well.
