Case: Drug Testing
In the state of Georgia, teachers are not obligated to do drug testing prior to entering the career. Also, they do not have random drug testing throughout their years of teaching. Do you guys think this is safe for the students?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I have taught in 3 different states, and none of them required drug testing prior to getting hired. I was shocked by this. I believe teachers should have to pass a drug test prior to signing a contract. I also think it's appropriate to require random testing. I just feel you can never be too safe when it comes to children. |

Comments: I feel this is the best answer. Children shouldn't be getting taught by a teacher who does drugs. |

Comments: I disagree. I don't think most teachers would be abusing substances and it would be a waste of precious funds to drug test everyone. It can safely be reserved for when there is cause to suspect. |

Comments: I absolutely agree. You have to pass a drug test to work at Walmart and Publix, you should have to pass a drug test to teach children. What they test for and what the passing requirements should be up to that particular district, but they should still be tested. |

Comments: I agree with thsi solution that teachers should be drug tested before they are hired and could also be asked to take random drug tests. Anyone working with children should be tested at random every once in awhile. |

Comments: I agree. Teachers must pass a drug test to be employed as a teacher. It ensures the safety of our students. |

Comments: This answer is not based on evidence nor any solid theory. The approach advocated here treats teachers as suspects rather than educators abridging their constitutional rights without any real reason. |

Comments: I feel someone should not be tested unless they show signs of needing to be. |
