Case: Student can read but not comprehend
The teacher has a student who can read every word in the book. He also can comprehends some of the story but doesn't understand the deeper meaning behind the story. The teacher has tried to go page by page with the student but sometimes he still doesn't understand. The teacher believes the student may not understand some of the story because of experience and lack of vocabulary. Where should she start to problem solve to help the student?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would make sure the child has received or is receiving ESOL services to truly help in this area. |

Comments: I feel like this solution is very passive and that the teacher in question should take a more active role in helping their student, as well as assuring the student has the proper ESOL assistance. |

Comments: I'm sure the teacher has made sure the student is receiving adequate ESOL services, but that doesn't specifically address the problem described here. |

Comments: Since the student is with you the majority of the day, you are the first and last line of defense to help out your student succeed. Your student doesn't have time to wait on another teacher they need your help, that's why they are in your class. |
