Case: Unsupportive Parent
At the beginning of the year, I placed one of my students on the wrong bus. It was an honest mistake, she was brought back to the school and mom was called to come get her. When mom got to the school she was irate. She yelled and screamed at me for putting her child on the wrong bus. Ever since then she has tried to inconvenience me in any way possible. She has also made it a point to talk about me and knit pick everything I do to other parents in the classroom. How do I address this situation? Should I get administration involved, or should I handle it myself?

I would suggest asking for a conference to discuss the progress of the child, then ask the parent how she feels the student is doing. Then throw in how you want to have better communication for the sake of the child. |

Comments: This is misleading and a manipulative form of getting the parent into a conference about something the teacher may not necessarily be concerned about and then changing the subject to something else. I don't think it would be effective, and I don't think the parent would appreciate it. |
