Case: Administrator Playing Favorites
An assistant principal has a group of students that she plays favorites with. These students are constantly in her office when they should be in class and when any of them are written up they receive barely a slap on the wrist if anything. This same principal sends out emails to the school telling teachers to not send students to her office without her permission, but when students wander in after getting permission to go to the bathroom she lets them stay. How do you handle this?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I've dealt with this exact same thing before. First, contact the parents and get them involved. When they question why the student is missing your class, they will eventually figure out the principal is involved without you having to tell them. Don't let the students make up work when they aren't in class. Their grades will start falling and they will quit missing class. Last thing, stop writing them up. When I had this issue, I just handled everything myself. Sure, it was a big of an inconvenience, but you have the power to make their lives miserable when your principal won't. |
