Case: Parents that are unresponsive
I have a Kindergartner student that I want to retain next year. She is not ready to move to first grade and the parents do not work with her at home either, as I have highly suggested. However, I have sent three emails, two letters home and left a voice mail to set up a parent-teacher conference. I have not heard one response from the parents. What else is left to do? How do I get these parents to care about their child's academic progress?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
In my school district, they usually send the parent coordinator out to visit the parents. Some parents simply do not have a ride. Although, I am unsure if that is the case here. My administration has also went to the lengths of suspending the students until a parent conference. If the parents dont want the students at home with them, that forces them to come in. |

Comments: I think this is a good approach but I also don't think it's fair to the child to suspend them because their parents wont communicate. |
