  Case: Class Dojo
To assist with classroom management, I started using an app named Class Dojo. The app assists with documenting both students positive and negative behaviors. The design of the app allows the students and parents to get connected via email or app, and they are able to view their behavior daily. I assign a responsible student to manage the program during class by utilizing my iPad to make the proper behavior notations. Do you think it is fair to allow students who have been proven to be responsible the opportunity to make such documentation with teacher supervision?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I do not think there is anything wrong with letting a responsible student handle the class dojo. I think you could use this as a reward for students to work towards.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I do not agree with your solution. I would not let students manage the Class Dojo because I feel it is a breach in confidentiality. Plus, it would be to the teacher's advantage to be the sole manager of the Class Dojo because then he or she can be certain that they are familiar with each students strengths and weaknesses when it comes to behavior.

Comments: I think that letting a student handle the dojo all on their own could lead to problems with confidentiality. I don't think other students need to see or document the behavior of other students.

Comments: While I do think that students should help in the classroom in order to work toward a reward I do not think it is appropriate for students to be handling other students Dojo points even if the teacher sees the student as responsible because it is a privacy issues.

Comments: There is something wrong with it if it is going to impact the behavior record that is sent home to parents. This sort of system is best used by teachers only and not allow one student to have power over another. While I agree that students can help teach responsibility, I do not think this is the way to do it.

Comments: I do not agree with the comment as there is an issue with the confidentiality that teachers are to keep about their students so by having one student being in charge of the behaviors on Class Dojo the one student (with behavior issues) might feel uncomfortable with their peer knowing about their behaviors and being in charge of the data being recorded on the app. I would not have a student be in charge of the others for behavior data input on Class Dojo.

Comments: I just don't think that it is fair to pick and choose which students are allowed to make such documentation.
