She is a fourth grade teacher which is the age when students are starting to notice things like this. The administration has not said anything to her and this has been going on for several years now. The other teachers talk about it, but will not saying anything about it. My son will most likely be in her class next year and I would like to bring it to her attention but I do not know if I should. What would be the appropriate way to bring this up? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) Since she is a colleague of yours, I would privately bring up your concern on a day when she is wearing a low cut shirt. I honestly think because of the sensitivity of this topic, she should go straight to an administrator. This is wrong! The way she dresses has nothing to do with her teaching and as a colleague I would not express to her that I think she should be judged for the way she dresses. It would be better to approach her as a parent and express concern for the child. It could create some negative tension that may even turn to cause some issues in and out of the classroom. This definitely is a situation that can be confidentially brought up to the principal. It's almost as if you are saying that you know it's wrong, but people are going to do it anyway. That is extremely disrespectful and probably wouldn't solve much. It's also not anyone's job to tell her how to dress. There are proper channels to go through when there is a problem with dress code violations, so it's probably best to follow those protocols. Instead of expressing your concerns in that way it's kind of setting it up where the teacher might get defensive. The more mature approach would be to let her supervisor or administrator know about it.
