Case: Social Media
What are the limits when it comes to social media and education? I remember hearing a story of a principal who was fired because she posted a picture of her and her friends drinking wine. Is this over stepping the boundaries, or is the new norm for education?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Personally I think that what happens outside of school, as long as it is not against the law, should be the business of that person, however, I know that teachers are held to a higher standard. Does this mean someone should be fired for a picture of them drinking wine, no! The best advice I could give and personally follow, is to not post "compromising" pictures, make your profile private and use a pseudo name and generic profile picture. |

Comments: What happens outside of the school is the business of that person however, educator must set an appropriate example even outside of the school. |

Comments: I agree that no one should be fired over a picture with a glass of wine. However, I would like to make the point that once you post your business on social media it becomes everyone's business. Therefore, I do think it is important that you highly monitor what's going into your social media profiles and, for this reason, I would not agree with your solution. |

Comments: I agree, Teachers are people too. As long as it is legal and ethical then they should be cut a break. Good teachers are hard to find. |

Comments: Even though you add some helpful advice on how to not be too apparent, it may not be the best route. Eventually with how open social media is there is a likelihood the wrong person would discover the "pseudo" media and still find that a there was some boundary crossed on your account or even say for not being your real self on media is being inappropriate too. |

Comments: Well I believe that it is true that private life is private life, we as educators are always held to a higher standard as we are teaching the future Generations. Unfortunately this does mean that we do need to watch what we do and how we present ourselves even on social media. |

Comments: I don't agree yes teachers have a life outside of school but when they're posting pictures of drinking alcohol and acting irresponsibly they're setting a negative example for students. |
