What I find to be discouraging is that students will be able to tell I am lesbian by just my looks. I am worried that they will not respect my title and me as their instructor. I have learned over the last 7 years of working with children to very carefully maneuver questions of parents and children alike about my gender and sexuality. It really never stops being hard and uncomfortable.
