  Case: Taking Advantage
I have a child who has a 504 plan so he is allowed 50% extra time to complete assignments. He takes advantage of this allowance by not turning in homework all week, asking for extra copies and turning EVERY thing in on Mondays. I do not feel like this is fair to other students. How do I address this issue?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Make the incentives for turning in work earlier, working around deadlines is a skill that the student needs to learn in order to be successful with or with out extra time.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: Incentives help motivate students to complete work on time. Some students may need more time to complete work than others, but incentives help remind the student that there is a reward for finishing on time.

Comments: I do not agree with this solution. The student has a clear laid accommodation and should adhere to that. I would not recommend this solution.

Comments: While I agree that incentives may be a temporary fix, the student may begin to expect rewards for turning in their work early, which becomes even more unfair to the other students. An evaluation of the 504 requirements should be done.

Comments: I don't think the teacher should reward the student for turning in work early rather it should expected for the student to turn in work on time.

Comments: Incentives are not always the best way to go because then the student can expect that every time which isn't helping the student too much in the long run.
