Case: The Gifted Parents
A studnet in Mr. Smith class has always done well but has never showed any interest in or talent for a gifted program that is offered by the school. The child's parents are telling Mr. Smith that they want him to recomend their child be put into this program because they were both gifted as is his older sibling. Mr. Smith wants to do what best for the child but not to be yelled at by the parents. Should Mr. Smith put he recomend the child for the gifted program?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Well due to the fact that the parents are responsible for the student and they are asking this from the teacher they Mr. Smith should do it. It is the parents responsibility to sit with the their child and discuss the benefits of the program. |

Comments: I do not think that this solution is very helpful. Putting the student in the gifted program if they are not ready could cause a lot of distress for the student, making things much worse than just upset parents. Gifted prgrams usually have requirements that their students have to meet, and if Mr. Smith is questioning whether or not the student should be in there, they propably are not ready. If every parent had the ability to choose what programs their children would be in, things would not be fair, and , in this case, it might stress the child out and set them back. |

Comments: Well it is important for the parent to sit down and discuss the positives and negatives of being in the gifted program with the student this does not apply for student is not truly gifted and cannot be allowed into the program. This unfortunately might just get the students hopes up and when they learn that they are not a truly gifted child that they will become depressed and |

Comments: It is not good to just go with the wishes of the parent, the student's interests should come first. |
