  Case: Bad Language
I have a student who is repeatedly using bad language in class. I have written home notes-no response-taken away points and isolated him from other students. I have tried talking to him privately when this happens, but he continues. How can I handle this problem in my classroom?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would go the next step from writing notes home to calling the parents and letting them know that there is a serious issue going on in class. If the parents don't respond to the phone call, I would let the principle of the school know and have him/her get in touch with the family.

Comments: There are many other steps that can be taken with the student before going to the principal. You don't want to put this relatively small problem on someone else when there are more steps you can take.

Comments: I'm not sure this is the first solution I would use. That may make the student lash out even more and could escalate the situation.

Comments: I do not think I would call the parents. I think getting in touch with them over email or having the principal get involve may be more effective.

Comments: It sounds as though the parents arent very responsive, so Im not sure how much more responsive theyre going to be to the principle
