  Case: Catch Up
Does anyone have any suggestions for playing catch up? I have a student who is gone so often that it makes it difficult to catch them up so they can keep up with the content.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I think an important factor in the equation is why the student is gone so often? Is it a medical issue? Does the student simply not show up on their own (if old enough to not come to class) / parents don't bring them (if young enough for the need to rely on them)? If this is the case, I believe a sit down with the parents is necessary. If there is an appropriate reason for the absences, I would provide large chunks of material to the student at once throughout the year, in anticipation of absences. If the student is in class, then the assignments can be completed on schedule with their classmates, but this way if the student isn't able to be present, they still have the material they need to keep up.

Comments: I agree this is an important issue and needs to be addressed with the parents and administration. Unless of a dire circumstance or illness students should be at school. Having a separate folder with the students work or posting it online could be positive effects for the student getting their classwork complete.

Comments: The teacher should investigate why the student has so many absences and take appropriate action.
