Case: Frustrated
I have a student who is low level at math and reading because he doesn't get much practice at home. I make sure to give him the time necessary for I-station and ST math in order to raise his levels. Unfortunately, he gets so frustrated on the games when he doesn't get it right or has to start over. He starts to cry and hits the computer and doesn't continue to learn because of his frustration. what should I do to make sure he gets the best out of his computer time and how should I help him to avoid getting frustrated?

Technology can be helpful, but some students could benefit from small group activities. Try to create a small group lesson that pushes basic math rules that could build a foundation for their lessons. Some students just need to be taught the basics one more time. |

| Comments: I agree and think that some students just need to be taught the basics one more time. In this case, it sounds like he needs practice and maybe learning the basics / practicing more with the basics will benefit him. |

| Comments: While this can be a challenging for some students and teachers, such as myself, as some students and even teachers work better independently, it can still help him as studies show that peer work can help students to understand better and they are more comfortable asking questions to one another and can discover things together. |

| Comments: I think that having other students to help him and work with him would be a good idea to make things less frustrating. Sometimes technology is not the answer. I personally benefitted from small group work while in school. It helps them learn from others. |

| Comments: This solution is something that is easy to do and will help the student. Sometimes all a person needs is to have the material explained to them again and have someone there that would be able to help them. Personally, I like to have someone that I can ask questions to and receive help from, especially when doing math, so working in a small group is a great way to get the student involved and enjoying math. |
