Case: Shy
I have a female ESE student who seems to get extremely shy every time I call on her for and answer. I will give her a lot of time to respond. I will restate the question in a few different ways. I make every attempt to involve her in the lesson, but she only responds once and a while. How do I ease her anxiety?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Maybe you could let the student know when you are going to call on her, so she has more time to prepare. She could also write down her answer ahead of time and then share her answer by reading it off her paper. This might make her feel less nervous. |

Comments: I don't think thats really fair to the other students because maybe they would like time to prepare of their answer so they don't get laughed at. Plus it also defeats the purpose of picking your students at random, the teacher must remember which question he gave the student and must only call on them for that question, nothing else. |

Comments: I think this solution would build anxiety way more, because you are telling them they will talk soon, so instead of listening to her peers, she's going to she answer and looking at it over and over again freaking out that she really might not have it right. Even just writing her answer isn't really going to help because either way she does not want to speak. |

Comments: This will probably give the student even more anxiety for the upcoming moment and distract her from the learning at hand. |
