Case: Bad Influence
There is a student who is constantly telling the other students scary stories or stuff is going to happen to them. Always really negative stuff and I have talked to him many times. I have noticed that one of my more positive student is hanging around the negative student and is starting to act negative. I don't want the problems students negativity and bad attitude to rub off on my other students. How should I handle this?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
If it becomes out of hand, I think it is a good idea to think about involving both sets of parents. |

Comments: I think involving the parents is a good idea. The negativity could be something coming from at home that is influencing the child's negativity. |

Comments: I would also notify the parents; however, I would also include the guidance counselor of the school to make sure there are not any underlying problems causing the the student to think of the scary stories. |

Comments: I think talking to the parents is a great idea but not both sets. The initial child is the one to be concerned because it is his influence that is the problem. Him changing can result to the other kids behaviors. Also Getting administration involved is a big key that can better resolve the problem. |

Comments: This could be useful as it may aid the teacher in how to handle the situation more affectively. The teacher may better understand how and why something is happening and may find a better solution to the problem. The parents may be able to offer background information to aid the teacher in avoiding such an issue in the future. |

Comments: I think that involving the parents to see where the behavior is coming from is a good idea and discussing with the other children that the behavior is uncalled for is important. If they know there are consequences to follow they should steer away from the misbehavior. |

Comments: I don't think having a conference with the child who is hanging around the negative student is necessary yet. Just a conference with the negative student and his parents |

Comments: This solution is not helpful. Involving both sets of parents would be unnecessary. Involving the victims parents can cause an issue between the two sets of parents and the parents of the victim could also blame the teacher and say that they are not doing enough to solve the issue. |
