Case: Do you think homework is beneficial? Why or why not?
If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Make sure to stress that you always want to give the students time in class or at the end of the day to complete homework together or individually, while going around the room to answer any questions. I think they could finish the assignment at home, but also give a few minutes to review it and answer questions again the next day.
Giving grades for assignments taken home would be a difficult subject. So much of this could vary depending on the task and the actual students themselves. The more you get to know them, you can figure out what can be expected of them.

Comments: Homework should be approached in an "extra practice" format and strongly encouraged. Certain school districts will not allow homework grades to have any effect on the students actual subject grade. If it is "homework" it should be completed at home with or without parental support; if not, it is in class work and should be handled differently.

Comments: I don't agree with this answer. If you allow the work to be done in class then it is not homework and there is no opportunity for the parents to be involved and assess their child's abilities.

Comments: i believe homework helps the children's working memory become long term memory so by them not practicing with homework the information will not stick.

Comments: I don't like this solution based on having the students having time in the classroom to do the homework. The reason for "home"work is to have the student take the time at home to complete it in their own environment because it's for them to comprehend the lesson that was taught to them that day, or week. It's also helpful for the teacher to evaluate how they learned the lesson.

Comments: I think homework should be completed on their own time, not in groups at school.
