  Case: Overbearing parent
What do you do when a parent volunteers to help with a lot, which you happily accept, but then they become a little overbearing? I worked with a parent that was willing to help with anything the teachers needed, but once they felt comfortable around the teachers she started overstepping her boundaries. She would give her daughter permission to do things in the classroom that were against the rules but I felt uncomfortable confronting the mom about it. She was so helpful in so many areas that I let the little things slide, but the situation started increasing (snowball effect).
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I encountered a situation similar to this. It is important to set boundaries, even with parents. It is wonderful that they want to help but make sure they know what you need help with and what you don't need help with.

The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No

Comments: I don't like your solution because you don't really give a lot of information on how to handle this, you just say I've been through this and set boundaries, thats not that helpful.

Comments: I think this is a great solution because it lets the parent know their appreciated, but certain tasks (redirecting students, granting permission, etc.) is the teacher's job and not the parent's.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would exactly do this. I believe it is important to make sure the parent is only helping in the area the teacher wants by giving clear instruction, possible in a separate area of the student which limits interaction between parent and child.

Comments: Boundaries are necessary, but more needs to be addressed then just this. The help of a parent is great, but they are only help and their child can't get special privileges.

Comments: Boundaries and respect are essential from all parties. I agree with you that it is nice that they want to help, but crossing boundaries is simply unacceptable.
