  Case: Just trying to Help
A student in class has a odor condition, and I tried to help the child from being picked on by others in the class so I sent home a little deodorant with the child. I received a note back from the parents with a very rude remark, \"(Blank student) has a mother and does not need another.\" Now, uncomfortably, I do not know what to do.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would have a quick lesson on hygiene in the class and have hygiene products in my class for students to take home if they need to. This would be open to all students not just directed to one. Then document each day that child comes to school with a bad odor and if this is a consistent thing I will then reach out to the parents and let them know of this issue that is reoccurring at school if I dont smell a difference after that I will have a talk to the student about any personal issues at home and last resort would to talk to my supervisor.

Comments: These are all good ideas but I would still choose not to go this route. The reason being that the parent already told you to bak off. If you choose not to, this could lead to a very angry mother.

Comments: If the student is already picked on for this issue this presentation may make him feel singled out and make the situation worse

Comments: I think this solution is complicated. I also disagree with it because the parent did not seem to be open to "reaching out" so I think a conference would do more harm than good.

Comments: While none of the solutions are fantastic, and I worry that if the parent finds out about this they may still get upset, it is the best one of the solutions listed.

Comments: I totally agree with this answer, I will definitely keep it in mind for future years and using it in my classroom. This lesson would help a lot of other children in the future not just in this particular situation

Comments: This eventually does single the student out and could make their anxiety raise and self esteem drop. It's best to keep this broad rather than assuming something horrible is happening at home.

Comments: This is a great idea because the student will learn about hygiene and the products are available to take home as well. I think there should also be some deodorant the kids could use for after PE or outside activities.
