Case: Cliques
I have two students who are acting out towards the other students. They are both girls who pick on the girls with less friends. How do I stop this without crossing my boundaries as their teacher and not their parents?

As a teacher it is your right to stand up for what is right and to let students know that bullying is not acceptable. I would talk to all the students who are involved in this case and let them express how they feel and have them apologize. |

| Comments: I agree with this solution but I would maybe address the class as a whole and let them all know that bullying is not acceptable and maybe give the bullying students an opportunity to fix the problem themselves. If they don't take advantage of the opportunity then it's probably time for some pier mediation. |

| Comments: I do not feel this solution will solve the problem/issue. If i were in this situation i would first address the class as a whole, explain that bullying will not be tolerated and give them the opportunity to privately write a letter to "someone they feel they have been a bully to" these letters will be turned into the teacher and gives the student the opportunity to come forward and address the situation privately. I would also involve an administrator or guidance counselor to make them aware of the situation. |
