  Case: Disgusting
More often than not, I have a student that shows up to class with lice. I have sent her to the clinic numerous times. I have sent notes home numerous times. Still, she comes to class with lice. What do I do next?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Document this and report it to the social worker and administration. That is borderline child abuse.

Comments: Though I agree it is not okay for the child to have lice, they child may not be in danger, it could be a low income home and the parents just need help. Other routes can be taken first.

Comments: This is not fair for the parent, they may need help or may not know how to remove lice. To tear up a family because of assumptions is a bad idea.

Comments: I would not calk a social worker just yet. I would have a parent conference first.

Comments: I would never implement this solution. Bringing the situation to administration is okay to do, especially if it happens in several different cases, but getting a social worker involved before speaking with the parents face to face is not the right thing to do.

Comments: I don't think this is helpful or necessary. It's likely the parents aren't taking proper steps in the sanitization of their home when the incident occurs, such as washing pillows, bed sheets, etc. and that's why the lice continues to come back. I think having a conference with the parents is the best step.

Comments: I feel like this is a little dramatic. Head lice isn't caused by neglect or abuse and in fact lice like clean hair because they can move around more easily.
