  Case: Lonely Student
One of the ESOL students in my class has no friends and does not talk to anyone socially, other than when directed for school work. How can I help this student make friends?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Try to include him in a lot of group work

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I do not think that this would be the most successful solution to this situation. The student may not be very sociable and want to engage too much with other students. Maybe getting them introduced to one or two to start would be a good idea so they won't be completely overwhelmed.

Comments: The student may be antisocial by choice, and this would make them feel even more uncomfortable. Keep in mind that the student is ESOL.

Comments: While I think some group work is helpful, I think it's important for the student to be able to work on their own as well. Some group work can help tremendously, but I think a better approach would be to have a culture day where students can learn about many cultures and empathize with them more.
