Case: ADHD Student
There is a student in my class who has a 504 plan because he has ADHD. This student does not always take his medication, and I can certainly tell due to his behavior. What should I do on the days he does not take his medication?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
This is something that once you notice that the student doesn't always take his medication, you should have plans for both days. If you notice that the student acts one way on the medication and one way off the medication see what you can do. See what the student likes to do when they are off the medication, because once you know that, than it is going to be easier, to keep the student calm during the class and throughout the day. Always have a plan, even if it take a month or two to get it down. |

Comments: I think that this is a great solution and would be very helpful. All teachers need to know their students and have a plan for their different moods, behaviors, etc. knowing how to control the student in every situation is important so that everything is controlled and going smoothly. Also, talking to the parents about making sure he takes the medicine every day would be a good idea. |

Comments: It is so true that teachers must be prepared for anything, and meeting the needs of students, on or off of medication, is a huge part of our job. |

Comments: I like the solution as it shows that a teacher can work to being prepared and know their students (with some work on the teacher's part) but I really like the idea of having plans for the teacher to follow through regardless if the student took their medicine or not. |

Comments: I agree. Once you see the differences the student is displaying, making a plan to accommodate both will make those days easier to get through. |

Comments: Absolutely. We should not have to count on medication to teach a student having a plan for the different days definitely helps because it is something once you notice they haven't taken them you can tell. |

Comments: I think this is a good idea. Always have a plan of action ready for those days. Keep a strict schedule with the student as well so he already knows what is coming. |
